Lotta Cash, a wealthy widow, must be on the lookout. The evil Dogsbreath Devereaux, M.D. plans to marry Lotta so he can inherit her fortune and her late husband’s clinic. Helping him is the nasty nurse, Hilda Hatchet, whom he promises to wed after he gets rid of Lotta. Wild? Well, talk about medical mania when the insanely jealous Hilda catches Dogsbreath flirting with our heroine, Wendy March. We can only hope that Dr. Phil Good, our hero, can save Wendy and the unsuspecting Lotta from certain death. With an abundance of zany patients, wild tunes (’How Do You Bandage a Broken Heart?,’ ’Emergency,’ ’Do the Bop,’ etc.) and a hilarious plot, this musical melodrama will certainly have you in stitches all the way! As they say, Nurses! Foiled again!
The cast and director of Wabeno Area Players Production of And Miss Reardon Drinks A Little. L-R Linda Harter, Carol Bartlein, Kathy Millan, Max Skenandore, Sue Ferguson, Joan Sackett, Time Derfus and Josh Jameson
The cast, crew and patrons of Wabeno Area Players Production of And Miss Reardon Drinks A Little raised over $700 and several boxes of food items for the New Hope Shelter & Transitional Housing. Every year Wabeno Area Players chooses a local organization or group to sponsor as another way to give back to the community. This year it was New Hope Shelter & Transitional Housing.
The reason New Hope Shelter & Transitional Housing was chosen was all that it gives back to those in need. “We are lucky to have an organization, director, Micah Dewing, and staff in our community to help those that need it. They really need funds to drive the programs they have. If you want to support a local organization that gives 100% back, please give to them this holiday season.” stated Josh Jameson, Wabeno Area Players President.
Their father having deserted them in their childhood, the three Reardon sisters have grown up in a house of women, dominated by their mother, who is only recently dead. But time has erased the tender closeness of girlhood; one sister has married and cut herself off; another has begun to drink more than she should; and the third, after a scandalous incident at the school where she teaches, is on the brink of madness. When the married sister comes to dinner to press the need for committing her sibling to an institution, the simmering resentments of many years burst alive and are exacerbated by the intrusion of a well-meaning but boorish neighbor couple, whose unexpected arrival impels the action towards its shattering conclusion—in which all the pathos, humor and searing honesty of the play combine with overwhelming effect.
“In Paul Zindel we seem to have that rarity—a playwright who can write intelligent, sensitive, entertaining plays for a wide public. —Newsweek.
“It is funny and fierce and, well, absolutely extraordinary.” —Boston Globe.
“…he has created three parts that most actresses would trade their souls to play.” —Hollywood Reporter.

Proceeds and donations from this evening will go to the Erna Rousseau Scholarship Fund. The scholarship is in the memory of Erna Rousseau, a lifelong piano teacher and accompanist from Wabeno. Erna always made time for students from the area and supported the arts fully. It’s awarded annually to a student from Crandon, Goodman/Armstrong Creek, Laona and Wabeno who have been involved in the arts in high school and plan on pursuing a college degree in education, art, music, dance, or theater. Scholarships are now being awarded to current high school students to attend summer camps. Since 1997 the scholarship has awarded over $9,000 to 26 area students. It’s the only scholarship of it’s kind for the youth in our area. Wabeno Area Players is the only community focused arts organization in our area as well. Both entities rely on the generous support of the community we live in. All donations are tax deductible.
